Although Chile's wine history dates back to colonial times, it wasn't until a couple of decades ago that the country's wine production gained international recognition, especially Cabernet Sauvignon. The most popular wines in Chile are made from the País grape variety, including chicha, which is fermented grape juice, and pipeño, an unprocessed wine made directly from the barrel. Starting in the 1980s, companies began investing in more technologically advanced facilities and complying with new regulations, which helped position the country as a major wine producer in the international market.

That is why in the mid-90s, at the height of the wine industry boom, the "Wine Route" began to be developed, to centralize tourism around wine or wine tourism, offering excursions, activities and accommodation among many other alternatives.
